Our First Meeting

Our first meeting we played a get to know you game.  The girls became acquainted as they introduced themselves and answered the question "What is your favorite book?".

After roll call the girls engaged in a discussion on our first book in the American Girl Collection -Kirsten.  They explored the topic of getting lost.  It was a lively discussion with much meaning.  In the book, Kirsten gets lost when she arrives to America.  Each girl was able to share what they would have done in Kirsten's situation.  They also shared strategies to use if they should ever get lost and some even shared personal stories of getting lost.  The discussion was very meaningful to the girls and mothers.

After we had a discussion on the book we made cloth dolls much like the one Kirsten may have had.  They were made out of cotton stuffing, a white handkerchief and ribbons.  I think that the girls were struck by the simplicity of Kirsten's world as they created these simple dolls.

Finally, we all piled into our cars and made our way to Marcie's home.  Marcie is a miniature doll house crafter. When we arrived, Marci gave us a tour of her impressive creations.  We then were privilege to create with Marcie accessories for miniature doll houses.

It was a full fabulous day.  The girls enjoyed their first meeting together and look forward to meet in Hannibal for a river boat cruise!!
